POSITION SUMMARY:The Company is a leading processor of beef products to the retail and foodservice markets in the western United States. With volume greater than 300 million pounds per year, the Company is the largest processor of ground beef and fully-cooked meat products in the western U.S. The company has two production facilities located in Vernon, California.Under general administrative direction, the Plant Engineer is responsible for leading maintenance of machinery, equipment, and facilities, ensuring environmental and regulatory compliance and overseeing implementation of capital projects. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & DUTIES:• Direct reports include Maintenance Manager, Project Engineer and Parts Room Supervisor. Indirect reports include a team of three (3) Mx Supervisors, thirty-six (36) Mx Mechanics/Specialists and a total of four (4) parts room attendants and planner/schedulers. • Provide career development for both direct and indirect reports. Encourage new ideas, training, schooling, and skill training. Conduct employee performance reviews to assess competency, knowledge and contribution levels of maintenance personnel. Conduct interviews and hires new Maintenance Team members as needs arise. • Direct the daily maintenance and repair of all equipment and facilities in a 7-day/24-hour production environment. • Provide maintenance leadership by organizing, planning and implementing programs which will drive corrective/preventative maintenance and continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing facility. • Manage capital and maintenance budgets, service contracts and MRO purchasing process.• Manage spare parts inventory with value in $2-$3 Mil range supporting annual spending of $4-$5 Mil. Ensure sufficient inventory is maintained and the maintenance budget is met. Complete installation of computerized parts inventory management system. • Works in conjunction with VP Strategic Planning to develop recommendations for capital expenditures and to support implementation of approved capital projects while ensuring timely/on-budget completion. • Monitor utility usage and actively investigate ways to reduce costs through billing, monitoring, and alternate opportunities for utility supplies.• Work with all departments to look for ways to improve quality, efficiencies, and drive all costs down while continuing to include more value added programs.• Implement best practices while ensuring safe operations at all levels. • Develop and maintain equipment manuals as needed for effective training and repair.• Continuously review plant operations and systems take action to minimize unplanned downtime and identify opportunities for improvement.• Ensure effective utilization of the ABB maintenance management system for tracking work orders, parts usage and maintenance history of plant equipment.• Prepare reports, analyze data and make recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems.• Ensure all maintenance personnel are utilized in the most efficient manner possible and that all performance issues are promptly handled in accordance with Company policies.• Track, analyze and improve key maintenance parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance costs, PM compliance and schedule compliance.SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:• A degree in Engineering, fifteen (15) years of previous experience including a minimum of five (5) years as a Plant Engineer, extensive technical training of a multi-craft nature, as well as experience with process engineering and equipment design in a food manufacturing setting is essential. Maintains proper slump (water content) of ready mix concrete. Inspects, services, and cleans concrete mixer truck.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1. DELIVERY OF READY MIX CONCRETE PRODUCTS: Receives instructions from Dispatcher, positions truck under batch plant in order to be loaded by Batch Plant Operator, receives written or printed delivery ticket, fills trucks water tank and checks slump of load, drives loaded truck to destination on delivery ticket, inspects jobsites upon arrival, works with customers to obtain adequate vehicle access, and unloads material. Frequently lifts, carries, and attaches onto flop chute extension chutes weighing in excess of 40 pounds. Communicates with Dispatcher include use of 2-way radio in truck and direct-line telephone in yard. Rinse chutes and rear of truck free of spilled concrete (re-hangs chutes as necessary) and returns to same yard or other yard as instructed by Dispatcher and receives new instructions. 2. VEHICLE MAINTENANCE: Performs pre-trip vehicle safety inspection and reports vehicle condition at beginning and end of each shift. Checks all vehicle fluid levels daily and adds fluids if necessary. Fuel vehicle as needed. Cleans outside of vehicle free of concrete build-up using corrosive and brushes at end of and throughout each shift. Occasionally uses chipping hammer to remove excessive concrete build-up. Remove concrete build up from inside drum of assigned vehicle. May lubricate vehicle or assist mechanics in vehicle repair.3. OTHER: Takes customer order changes in field. Maintains Drivers Daily Reports and codes time cards for purposes of cost accounting. Performs other duties as instructed by supervisor.EDUCATION REQUIRED:High school diploma or possession of a GED preferred.Class \"B\" commercial driversÂ’ license with TANKER endorsement is required. Class \"A\" license may be preferred or required. Sufficient level of education to understand oral and written instructions of somewhat technical nature relating to products and vehicles and to calculate time.EXPERIENCE: 3 years as a commercial driver license holder in which a minimum of 2 years has been driving concrete mixer trucks preferred. SKILLS REQUIRED: Excellent defensive driving skills. Ability to maintain satisfactory customer and public relations in performance of duties. Ability to clean all areas on vehicle, climb ladder to inspect loads of ready mix concrete, and hang mixer chutes.
