◄◄◄ CAT Behaviorist ◄◄◄ (Norwood)  (pic) Norwood 2009-01-18 9:39PM
◄◄◄ CAT Behaviorist ◄◄◄ If you cat is exhibiting out–of-the ordinary behavior, you should first see your veterinarian. Once he has ruled out all medical problems, then the next best step is to seek out a professional Cat Behaviorist. My ten years’ experience in working with cats has demonstrated over and over again that a cats cancerous behavior can be completely turned around when an owner seeks help on the onset of the problem. We are all victims of poor behaviorisms from time to time; we know how difficult it is to turn our own behavior around. Well, it is just as difficult to try and change a cat’s behavior. If the behavior has been ignored for six months or longer, the chances are that it will take an immense amount of work (three to six months of time) on the owners part to turn him around. Cancerous cat behavior could lead to a heart-breaking event for you and your cat. Colleagues and family members can only help to a point. A professional is very cognizant of all cat behavioral issues/problems and has the knowledge and know how on how to stop the behavior before it becomes a horrific problem for everyone involved. Note that behavioral problems are likely to develop when a cat is completely stressed out by hundred of different situations. (i.e.; his territory has been invaded, as something as small as a litter box problem, adding a new baby to your household, moving his litter box, or possibly moving to a new home) It is important to recognize that stress levels in cats are as diversified as stress levels in a human being. It is equally important for you to remember that a cat’s whole life revolves around ‘his territory’. When his territory is disturbed, he may well act out in destructive ways, even against you, his owner. As a mom pays very close attention to any changes in her child’s behavior, she equally needs to be alert to any changes in her cat’s behavior. I can help the owner recognize the problem(s) and then implement effective cat modification tools that may help stop the problem. It is a joint effort by both parties: The Owner and The Cat. If you have taken the time and read this discourse, then more than likely you and your cat are having a problem right now. So..... reach out to a specialist NOW. Home Consultation $50. Email Consultation $35. Sharon 781-255-9888 Location: Norwoodits NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interestsPostingID: 998303674

TWO BUNNIES (North Shore)  (pic) North Shore 2009-01-18 9:36PM
I have two bunnies who need (a) new home(s)I have a gray bunny, Abby. She is about 3+ years, but she is a love. She is super soft, and she loves to tuck her face in the crook of your bent arm.Tessa is the white bunny, with brown specks here and there. She is 1-2 years old. She is a little more feisty, but thats most likely because I havent been holding her as much as I should. She does scratch when she is out of the cage for too long, but she is sweet.I am trying to find new homes for my bunnies, because they arent getting the care they need with me. My parents have taken over caring for them, and they are not enjoying it. They are both smaller rabbits, and they are sweet. They are adorable, and I would love to see them go to a good home.I am asking for maybe $20 for one or $30 for both for their rehoming fee, considering how much we paid for them. Thanks, and dont be afraid to email me! RERERE: Carpet python (MA) MA 2009-01-18 8:58PM
Well you just answered it. If they go for $125 in stores and from breeders then you are obviously selling the snake? Adoptions and good homes with smalls fees are the rules of craigslist not selling the animals which you are doing. A rehoming fee would be like maybe $40-50 not full price when I could go to a breeder and know that im getting a healthy animal. Forgotton Paws HELP NEEDED  (pic) 2009-01-18 8:22PM
Green Acres Animal Sanctuary - Rainsville, Alabama Please take the time to read Carols story and look through to see if there are any dogs you can take into your home or program to find them new homes. This is not an easy task, as you will note, most of the dogs are large and many are black. We need all the eyes and ears we can get to save these babies Time is VERY limited. This is what is left of Carols house after a fire destroyed it last November, claiming the lives of over 65 cats and 18 disabled dogs. You can see the large burned tree where the fire started outside her home. This was Carols family home. She did not have insurance because the home was very old and the cost was too great. Carol now lives in a garage that was detached from her burned home. It is a small concrete block building. Thanks to generous donations, Carol now has a wood burning stove, and a hot water heater. Her electricity is run from the street by an extention cord and we are working on finding the $800 to get the power run legally underground to her garage. She is slowly trying to create a normal living space for herself and her remaining pets. Her worries are not for herself though. She says she needs nothing but to get these dogs to a safe haven. She is an amazing 65 year old woman who has built this sanctuary with her own hands. Large shed-like wooden dog houses and huge yards contain these dogs. It was all built by Carol. Now she just fears for the safety of the dogs she loves so much. Rainsville, Alabama - For over 10 years, Rainsville citizens and city officials and workers have called upon Carol to take care of all the stray animals in the area. This is not a poor town but they do not spend money on things like an animal shelter. They just call on Carol and she steps up to the plate. After her house fire, attention was drawn to Carol and her large number of dogs. Suddenly the city officials played ignorant and many people against her. The whole town that has brought her dogs over the years have turned against her. The neighbors who had bought adjacent property and build their new homes saw an opportunity to get rid of the eye soar they called Carols place. Now, Carol has been told by the courts to get rid of all the dogs. She can only have 3 dogs on her 4 1/2 acres of property while the breeders across the street have 17 and yet more breeders at the other end of the street have more! To explain this to you I simply say, the city is named Rainsville and the Judge in this matter is Judge Raines. Time Frame:- These dogs need out NOW! Carol LOST her second round of appeals. The official court order came down on these dogs back in late October. Thankfully, through the publicity of the mass movement and national support of the plight of Carols dogs, the city has given her a \"good ole boy handshake agreement\" to hold off on executing any of the dogs as long as the rescue effort continues. Unfortunately, this deal ends FEBRUARY 9th, 2009! We have 17 hard to place dogs to move in 6 weeks! This is where the truth comes out......who can take on a dog that is tough to place knowing you will have him/her for several months and will need to spend extra effort with him/her to get her placed? As soon as we get some of the dogs we have already taken placed in new homes, I will be taking some tough ones, please step up to the plate and take one too. If you have questions about individual dogs, feel free to email Morgan directly at forgottenpaws@yahoo.com. I have spent extensive time with these dogs doing temperament testing and assessments http://www.forgottenpaws.com/GreenAcres1-10.htmhttp://www.forgottenpaws.com/GreenAcres11-20.htm its NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interestsPostingID: 998223983

Looking for a puppy (Gloucester) Gloucester 2009-01-18 8:17PM
I am looking for a puppy, that is not full grown. I have seen people post \"puppy\" when the dog is over one year. I am wanting a puppy, that is only a few months old. I am not trying to be picky, but it isnt fully intentional. I have reasons, and if you would like to know them, feel free to email me.A larger breed is preferred. I have been thinking of a lab, or beagle, though those are not that large. The puppy would need to get long with smaller dogs, like 10-20 pound dog. Nothing else is absolutely necessary. I have two small dogs, about the size listed above, and I am wanting a puppy. I am 16, and I live with my parents and sister. If you have a puppy, for free, or with a small rehoming fee, I would love to know.I check my email very often, and I would love to hear from you if you think you have a puppy that would be good for me.Thanks! Uh...Advice, Please? ...Maybe? (Mouse SOS) 2009-01-18 8:11PM
Tonight my mother made an unpleasant discovery while cooking dinner: a dead mouse in the bottom of her bottle of cooking oil! After hearing her girly shrieks I came down to investigate, only to find that the \"dead\" mouse was indeed still alive, but barely. Being an animal lover, I just could not bring myself to dump the poor little thing outside to freeze to death, as requested. As it just so happens, I currently have another unwanted mouse (my snake did not eat her), so I had a place to put the bedraggled survivor mouse. She seems to be a baby--not entirely full grown but just about there, and shes jet black.I have no idea how long she was stuck in that bottle (she was clever enough to actually take the cap off of it before getting trapped), and when I was able to free her she seemed very shell shocked, which I guess is to be expected after an ordeal like that :-(. As Im writing this she seems to be coming out of her daze a bit. She had a little bit of water, but is not interested in food--probably because she has a belly full of oil. The resident (domestic) mouse has not realized that she has a tankmate yet, and Im hoping that the introduction goes smoothly. After all that the little wild one has been through, it would be so unfair to have her killed by another mouse. Ive actually had experience with mice as pets and breeders, but this is indeed a first for me. We also have two resident indoor cats, so were not sure how this mouse escaped detection, although Im pretty sure my big boned Ragdoll wouldnt know how to catch a mouse even if he saw one! Lol.Anyway, I wanted to share this little story because it was so random and unexpected. I dont know if the little thing will survive her ordeal, but Im hoping she pulls through. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated, but please no remarks like \"you should have just killed it--its just a mouse.\" If I felt that way I would have done it. If all goes well, this little girl and her tankmate will be needing a new home. If anyone is interested in adopting two survivors, please let me know! Ive named the baby mouse Olive....seemed appropriate given the circumstances :-). Thanks for reading, and I look forward to seeing your remarks--the good, the bad, and the ugly! This being craigslist, Im bracing myself for the last two, hehe. Regards on this frigid night. its NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interestsPostingID: 998159958

I have a 4 yr old yellow lab who was recently spayed. Since spaying about 3 months ago shes gained weight, become less active, seems less mentally acute, and a slight pain in her rear leg has gotten much worse so she limps for 10-15 minutes every time she gets up from a nap. Ive been reading about Estrapet, which is supposed to reverse many of the adverse effects of spaying (ovariohysterectomy). If you have any experience with this product, please let me know. Thanks!Matt its NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interestsPostingID: 1007612946

Dumping your animals when you get married, etc (All Over) All Over 2009-01-25 8:14PM
Your loving cats and dogs kept you company on many a lonely night when there was no human partner for you. You could hold them while you laughed and cried. Your cats would even help you out if a scary mouse came in, ladies. Now, you find a partner, and because they are allergic you get rid of of your beloved cat or dog? I know they are only animals, and your human partner has to come first, but I am so sick of reading these posts! When you move in with someone, get married or have a new baby, your beloved pets are the first to get the boot. They are not garbage, they are alive beings on this earth, and they dont deserve to be put out because you found something better. Dont you think they will remember you when they are placed in their new homes? Dont you think they will feel whatever type of sorrow an animal feels when they know you will never be back for them? It saddens me to even think of it. I am at my wits' end 2009-01-25 8:07PM
I need advice. Please, no ill will. We have a 7 month old puppy. Weve had him for 5 months now. We are working with him every day. He is not trained at all. Although he holds in his pee and poop all day while we are at work, as soon as were home, he \"goes\" at will. Even if I take him out every half hour, he still pees (and ocassionally poops) in the house. It doesnt matter if I give him less water either...he still goes. He is healthy...according to our vet. There is nothing physically wrong with him...he just doesnt care. At first I thought he was just a harder dog to house break (our other dog who is now 1 and a 1/2 was trained in 2 weeks) but he holds it for 7-9 ours while we are work. I need help! Also, the bigger he gets, the more destructive he gets. He gets into EVERYTHING. It doesnt matter how high up we put things, he bangs on it until it moves close enough to grab. Hes chewed through multiple crates, blankets, carpets, toys, baseboards, tables, chairs, trash cans...you name it. As I said, we are constantly working with him...but it makes no difference. I dont know how it could be us...our other dog is totally fine!My husband is being ridiculous and impossible. He is just as annoyed (to say the least) as I am...but absolutely refuses to pay a trainer or bring him to obedience school. I dont know if its some macho thing or what...thats a whole different story. The point it, I dont know how to fix this dog. Please, if anyone has any tips, I will be eternally grateful. Thanks so much in advance. its NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interestsPostingID: 1007597870

Information on Lumbosacral Syndrome (Dedham) Dedham 2009-01-25 7:48PM
My thirteen and one half year old german shepard has been diagnosed with lumbosacral syndrome. Anyone out there have any experience with this condition. She recently has had trouble getting up on the bed at night - I figured it was arthritis - out of the clear blue she started dragging her right rear foot around. She has been treated with a steroid injection - deramaxx and Ecotrin. Her leg is swelling and our vet is not too encouraging. The vet has to come in because I cant get her out of the house - so alternative measures like acupuncture etc. doesnt appear to be an option. Any ideas. Surgery isnt an option because of her age and cost.Barbara Location: Dedhamits NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interestsPostingID: 1007575737
re: rat terrier pups for rehoming 2009-01-25 7:35PM
You say you are *NOT A BREEDER*....OK, so you are looking for homes for these pups that were a result of 2 dogs breeding. Maybe I missed it, but there is never any mention of getting the parents spayed/neutered after \"rehoming\" their offspring - only descriptions of the mother and father...and how much you paid for them. You sound desperate to find homes for the pups. Hopefully, youll consider getting the parents fixed so you wont have to spam this board again with your sad tale of why you need to find homes for your rat terriers. Keep reposting ....and when you finally have them all sold, please get the dogs fixed! its NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interestsPostingID: 1007557752
Give these 2 best friends a loving home (somerville)  (pic) somerville 2009-01-25 7:19PM
Munchkin and Buff are looking for a loving home. They are 9 and 8 respectively and are needing of a new place to call home due to some unexpected circumstances. They have been my lifeline and companions for the past 6 years and I am very sad to have them leave my life. They would do well with a single person, elderly, or couple and older children. Munchkin is a beauty, she has quite the personally. She loves to come sit by you on the couch, look out the window on her cat tree, and try to get under the covers to hide and do her own thing. She loves being held like a baby and chasing her tail around in circles. Buff is playful, he loves playing with toys, strings, and likes to eat oh and lick paper. He loves to come sit by you also, and lay at the foot of the bed and most of all follow Munchkin along, whatever she does he is right there following. These two cats have been together their whole lives and I am hoping not to separate them. They are a great duo. They have the occasional fight but love to snuggle up with each other. They both love to be brushed (Buff especially under his chin) and will easily let you cut their claws. I don’t cut on a regular basis but I have never had a problem with them scratching anything. They love the sunlight and just hanging out and sitting on the couch with you! They are in need of a #1 loving home, attention, and some fun. Along with these wonderful felines, come an automatic feeder, water bowls, a cat tree, some scratchers, and some toys. 2 carriers They have recently went to the vet and all shots are up to date. Munchkin and Buff are on a diet and eat special cat food to prevent urinary infections. It costs maybe a dollar or two more than regular food. Munchkin has high blood pressure and a thyroid problem. She takes two pills a day and doesn’t mind taking her medicines. They cost about $35 per month. In the past she had surgery to remove gallstones but this issue is resolved. Buff has a heart murmur and has had it his whole life with it not effecting anything. For these cats to be placed in the right home, I might be willing to pay for Munchkin’s meds for a few months. These two will bring you so much love! Location: somervilleits NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interestsPostingID: 1007527949
2 awesome young cats for adoption! (Harvard Sq)  (pic) Harvard Sq 2009-01-25 7:17PM
Hi,Im getting married in June (fiance is allergic) and need to give away my two amazing, healthy, and adorable cats Oliver and Manny. I would like them to be adopted together, if possible. Oliver is a 2.5 year old orange tabby. Hes totally fearless and curious, not a big lapcat, but will happily take naps next to you. Hes athletic and loves to climb on things (bookshelves and even doors--super impressive), and likes to be walked on a leash outdoors (though really, he walks you, not the other way around)Manny is a 2 year old Russian blue type cat (not purebred or anything, but a beautiful greyish silver coloring). Hes a foil to Ollie--a bit meeker, but a total purring lapcat. Manny loves to be around people and likes being picked up and cuddled. Hell just come and sit on your lap and rolls around on his back to great you when you come home. They are both really wonderful cats, and they are both so sweet, well behaved and friendly. They get along really well and will chase each other around, play fight, and groom each other. Having 2 cats is great this way because they take care of each other. Other stuff:*Both are neutered, FIV/FELV negative, and up to date on their shots--I have all their medical paperwork. *They are not declawed, but use their scratching posts regularly. I will not adopt them out to anyone who will declaw them.*They will come with all their supplies: some food, litter, litter box, brushes, toys, leash, scratching posts, and carrier. *There will be an adoption fee to ensure that they go to good homes, but I can waive it for the right people. *I would like to be able to visit with them once after their adoption just to make sure that they are adjusting well.*These guys are available immediately, but Im in no rush and really want to find them good homes. Thanks so much for reading and please get in touch with me if youre interested in meeting Ollie and Manny! Chloe needs a quiet home  (pic) 2009-01-25 6:52PM
Chloe is a 10 yr old cat who is still young at heart and full of energy. She is an indoor cat (still has all claws), has been neutered and has shots. I am getting married and my fiance is alergic. Chloe would do best in a quiet home with no other pets or young children (young children make her skittish). She would be a great companion for a woman. Once she gets used to her new home, she will follow you around, curl up next to you and greet you at the door! Also great with keeping mice away!I will include lots of food and litter, covered litter box and carrying crate to get you started. A small adoption fee can be negotiated for the right home. its NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interestsPostingID: 1007506096

The information below is an offering of legitimate veterinary care for low-income pet owners who are interested but cannot afford traditional vet fees. Why would anyone deny needy pets the care they need? Even if you applied and did not qualify, isnt it still worthwhile to distribute the information to those whose need is such that they do qualify? For those who are not interested, thats fine, too, since its just information! No harm done :)Check out the low cost spay/neuter clinic at the MSPCA-Boston!Low cost CAT package includes:-Spay/Neuter Surgery-Rabies Vaccination-Distemper Vaccination-HomeAgain Microchip and Tag-Flea/Ear Mite/De-worming Treatment (if needed)-FIV/FELV Testing-Nail TrimGet everything done in one day, just one visit!TO RECEIVE ASSISTANCE, YOU MUST FILL OUT A SNAP APPLICATION.Please visit the MSPCA website to apply: www.MSPCA.org/SNAPScroll all the way down and click the link where it says “SNAP Application.”This program is intended for low-income pet owners looking to provide high quality care for their pets.Fees generally range from $50-$80, based on need. Can civilians train drug dogs? 2009-01-25 6:19PM
Hello. I have a German shepherd mix that I know would love to have a job. He instinctively searches every car we go by, as well as any out of place item. He is also freakishly intelligent. With our cities, and also the suburbs, getting overrun with drugs, I want to do my part to make things a little safer. However, I am not willing to give him up, so no suggestions to donate him. I have been unable to find any info online, so if you have some FACTS, and not opinions, I would love to hear them. Thanks a lot. He is already extensively obedience trained. its NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interestsPostingID: 1007466430

FOUND: Brown and black tabby kitten, someone's pet! (South End)  (pic) South End 2009-01-25 4:32PM
Lost your cat? We found a poor, cold kitten curled up in a warehouse doorway in the SoWa section of the South End. She is clearly someones baby, as she is utterly affectionate and was found wearing a collar but no ID.We just spent $140 and two hours at the MSPCA but got very few answers about this baby. She has no microchip but seems to be under a year old. They \"think\" she has ear mites but no other health issues. (Btw, we really cant recommend the MSPCA after that experience... what vet says they \"think\" your cat has ear mites and then leaves to see another animal without prescribing meds?)If this might be your missing cat, please email us with a description of her and they type of collar she was found wearing. If things match up, we will reunite you with her!(Weve gotten some emails about people looking for a kitten -- if \"Warehouse\", as weve temporarily dubbed her, doesnt find her owners or doesnt get along with our cat then we will consider your offer. RE: Guy looking to get rid of his boa today (to the last guy) to the last guy 2009-01-25 4:32PM
dude, seriously? $30? maybe you should research boa constricters before you make a post to down somebody. Im assuming you spend enough time on your computer to start arguments with people, so why dont you go to petco.com or any reputable breeder website and research your arguments. Im assuming this guy is selling a red tail boa, because its the most common. and if you think you can get one at a pet store for $30 let me know, because I never have seen a red tail boa for anything less than $170....people make me sick. everyone on here likes to post about what other people are doing and what other people are posting. You should all just mind your own buisness and if you dont like the post, dont open it and read it, simple as that, get a lifeIf any of you people who constantly start petty arguments on here have a problem with the fact I said you all have no lives, please feel free to email me, its at the top left corner Location: to the last guyits NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interestsPostingID: 1007326428

Do any of you have selective cat allergies? (Waltham) Waltham 2009-01-25 4:08PM
Have any of you cat or dog lovers found that you are selectively allergic to just certain cats or dogs? Now, I am in the process of reconsidering adopting a pet, since I especially miss my two former strays which died several years ago, after almost twenty years of blessed time together.I had allergy testing a few years ago, that indicated a mild to moderate allergy to cats and a mild one to dogs. My symptoms had been primarily nasal congestion and some sinus issues, although they have improved since having surgery. The only cat to which I had an immediate allergic reaction was to an orange tabby stray. Both of my cats had black/gray/white hair, with the one a short haired, another long-haired. I have never had any obvious reaction, such as hives or sneezing when around them. Have any of you been selectively allergic to certain cats and dogs or specific breeds? Is this a common phenomenon? Any insight would be appreciated. Jinxy the Cat Needs TLC (Smithfield, RI)  (pic) Smithfield, RI 2009-01-25 3:14PM
Jinxy is a four year old neutered gray and white short haired cat. Jinxy is currently in foster care through the Hands that Heal organization. His former owner had to give him up because she had severe allergies. He is a loving cat that needs a patient and experienced person to care for him.Jinxy came to us with an eye infection that had never been treated properly. With the help of Jinxy’s foster parents and Hands that Heal, he is now healthy and only requires daily eye drops (which are easy to administer). The eye drops cost approximately $10 and the bottle can last up to six months. Hands that Heal is willing to help with the cost of eye drops for whoever adopts Jinxy.Jinxy has come a long way since entering into foster care. He used to be a shy cat that liked to be left alone. He will now sit in the same room with his foster parents and even play with our dog. He even likes it when you pet him and enjoys receiving cat treats. Jinxy does not claw at furniture and does not need constant attention. With some care and nurturing, Jinxy is on his way to becoming a great cat. Jinxy would be a great addition to family who has experience with cats and is looking for a companion.Jinxy is four years old, house trained and up to date on all of his shots. He gets along with cats, dogs and older children. There is no adoption fee to but a donation would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me if Jinxy sounds like the right cat for your home. RE: Guy with boa that must go today? (MA) MA 2009-01-25 2:21PM
Im sorry but obviously no one wants to pay that much for a snake when they can get them online for $30. Youve been posting that same post for a while now. Maybe if you changed your heading and not say it must go today maybe people wouldnt think you were so desperate to get rid of the snake. But if youd like I can trade you for something else like another reptile or invert maybe? Well just letting you know and trying to help you out thanks. Re: Here's What Happened (Ma) Ma 2009-01-25 2:21PM
I can feel your pain, $3000-$5000 is a lot of money when you dont have it on hand. Even with decent pet insurance, They require you to pay the bill at the vets, And you get reimbursed later down the road. And lets me honest, Some vets just want to make money. I have a 6 month old puppy. She had her 4 baby shots, and rabies shots. Im against over vaccination simply because of the health risks. And many respected breeders also feel the same way. Being 6 months, Im getting her spayed. This Vet I recently visited, they wanted to give her 2 shots she already received(distemper & Rabies), and 3 other shots. 1 being Lyme disease, and others booster shots, saying she will heal faster with them. Sure, I can see the Lyme disease, Its a high risk factor in New England. But pushing all the shots down my throat and refusing to operate until she got all 5 shots.... I have the paperwork of every shot she got. They didnt care one bit. But I guess with the economy, they are losing a lot of business, I keep hearing the dog pound is getting over filled with pets, from owners that lost jobs, Or the foreclosed homes and the pets being abandoned. Its like taking your car to a dealership for work, being flat rate shops, Most mechanics will lie/cause problems to make money for the day. ****PEOPLE GIVING AWAY FREE PETS****PLEASE READ (EVERYWHERE) EVERYWHERE 2009-01-25 2:19PM
PLEASE! Please dont place ads saying your a giving away your cat or dog for free! There are awful people out there looking for free pets all the time and then they try to resell them or even worse, they sell them to research laboratories! This in not some myth, it is very true. I actually had a friend that worked in a research lab in Boston and saw it first hand!(she quite after a week!) Please just ask for a small adoption fee and insist on delivering the pet to the persons house so you can see where they live. I would also insist on visiting rights, so you can come back in a month or so and make sure the pet is still there. Maybe even ask them to sign something. No reasonable, honest person would mind. I know times are hard, but dont just give your pet to anyone. They deserve better then to be tortured and unloved until they are not needed anymore or be resold and end up who knows where! Thanks for reading and good luck! God bless all the little animals!
