I have 2 female pugs I will be putting up for adoption soon. There will be a phone interview and a meeting with the dogs before I adopt either to anyone. She needs eyedrops for dry eyes. Pearl needs to be in a 1 dog home, she has food aggression. She would do better with adults only or teenagers since she doesnt like to be handled. She will sit on your lap and lick you but she doesnt like to be touched herself. I cant understand it but you cant change her. She walks in circles around you so may need some extra training to walk beside you. I hired a trainer and it seemed to help a lot.Ideally I would like them to be in a home where someone is home all day. Pugs are people oriented and need company.They would be better off in 2 different homes so they can each get lots of love but I would not be opposed to someone having both if the arrangement was perfect.Both are house broken if they are let out several times per day. Raine is a striking dog with gorgeous black and white pinto markings. She is intelligent, athletic and playful. She is housebroken and crate trained. Raine is eager to please and more eager to learn, she knows sit, wait, stay, lie down, shake, crawl, and roll over. She loves to be around people, no exceptions and is appropriate with every one she meets. Her manners inside the home are impeccable, she sits and waits for her meals, stays off furniture and is respectful of personal space. She is very athletic and would do well in an active home. Raines one issue is that she is not great with other dogs. Her introductions to new dogs has never been very good, but once she gets used to them, which could take anywhere from a sniff to an hour, she is fine.Animal Control removed Raine from a yard in central mass where she was left chained to a tree without shelter, food or water. I am a volunteer foster parent with a rescue group and Raine came to me an emaciated dog who tested positive for both heartworm and lyme disease. Raine stayed with me for 3 months and was treated for both Heartworm Disease and Lyme disease. Heartworm treatment is very risky, I worried about her constantly, afraid that she would get over excited and her heart would beat too fast causing an embolism. Raine survived the treatment, put on some weight and emerged a very healthy dog.She was quickly adopted and I received glowing reports from her new family. She was so smart, so athletic, so fun and so loving, they thanked me for rescuing this dog and bringing her into their lives. 6 weeks after she was adopted I received an unfortunate email, Raine had bit another dog. The bite was unprovoked.So the couple brought in a trainer who told them she is a fantastic dog who does not fit their lifestyle and they asked me to take her back. I brought them to a trainer that I was familiar with for a second opinion and he suggested 5 weeks of intensive, boot camp style training. They decided that the training was too expensive and they gave her back to me. I can assure you this is a wonderful dog and regardless of finances, well worth a second chance. I enrolled her in the training, solicited funds from donors and have raised enough to see her through 4 weeks of training. All she needs now is her forever home.The trainer reports that she is loosening up around other dogs and is responding very well to correction. She is a favorite among the staff who love her intelligence and playfulness. She will need an assertive owner who is able to work with her, there are follow-up visits with the trainer so that her new owner can learn to control her amidst distractions and make the most of all that she has learned in training. Please understand that this training does not teach her to love other dogs, but rather for her to focus and obey her owner under situations where she may otherwise misbehave.Raine is four years old, we believe she is a pointer/hound/pit mix. She weighs about 48 pounds. She enjoys playing with toys (especially tennis balls). She has lived with 5 other dogs during her stay with me and loved curling up with my dog in his crate. These little babies were originally brought to a high kill shelter. On the day they were to be put down, the vet called our shelter and asked if we had any room to take them and any volunteers to work with them. Even the vet didnt want to kill these kittens !Luckily we did have an open cage and several volunteers willing to help these babies.For all you who dont think kittens get put down around our area and it only happens in the south, you are wrong. It happens every week in many local shelters that kittens get put down, you just dont hear about it.So please spay/neuter and help stop the endless breeding cycle.Now about these 3 little kittens who are lucky to still be alive.....They were born outdoors to an unspayed mother. Unfortunately, their mom was already euthanized :-(One kitten is a black male. The lighter colored tabby tuxedo is a male. The darker colored tabby tuxedo is a female.The kittens are now about 9 weeks old. We took them in about 2 weeks ago. They are skittish and nervousaround people and need work, however in 2 weeks they have made improvements in being held and petted.The volunteers are only at the shelter limited times during the week. So it is critical these kittens find their forever homes so they can start bonding with someone. They would not be good kittens for children or the casual kitten lover. Someone that has experience with socializing young kittens and has a decent amount of time to spend holding them daily is much preferred. Its fine if you work all day, just make sure you have time a night to spend with them. They are normal kittens in every other way. Cute, curious and playful. They were fascinated by my camera strap as I was taking the pictures of them :-)Other than being deflead and dewormed once, they have NO other vet care. They appear to be healthy kittens.Providing the proper vet care will be up to the adopter.The shelter is in RI about 1 hour south of Boston. and 30 minutes from the Attleboro area.There is no fee for the kittens but a $25 spay/neuter deposit is required and a contract will be signed stating you will have the kitten fixed by 6 months of age. 3 free female pet rats to good home. They are all very sweet and no biters. All the girls are about 1 - 1/2 years old. Colors are black/white, all gray, and all white. All have sweet dispositions. Rescues do not make money. By definition, they are non-profits that use whatever funds they do get in the process of an adoption to go back into rescuing other dogs. If they were making money, they would not have to do any fundraising - and they struggle constantly to make up for the thousands of dollars to spay, neueter, and rehab dogs that often come from Craigs List and other sources that have NOT been cared for by their previous owners. Anyone with a pet can tell you that a regular annual vet visit can run around $200. Thats just for a check-up, annual shots, heartworm test, wormer. A bag of food is around $30. Now, Im not that great at math, but just how does one turn a profit taking in animals that need their teeth cleaned, defective eyelids fixed, mats removed from their unbrushed and unwashed coats, and treatment for chronic conditions that have deteriorated treated? Huh? By posting this, you are turning people away from allowing their dogs to get into rescue - and that means they go into the wrong hands. Rescue VOLUNTEERS do the screening on their own time, because they care. They care deeply about the dogs, but also often for the people who are forced to relinquish their pets into rescue, because they can no longer afford to take care of someone they love. And you want to ruin that. If there is no safe sanctuary for these animals, they will end up in the hands of those who either are not equipped to care for them properly, or would harm them intentionally. You choose. And ask yourself WHY some of those people you are talking about did not pass the test. It isnt because this is a big business - or we all would a very expensive vacation right now. What, pray tell, are you doing to help keep these animals safe? Hi,I am moving, and am not allowed to take pets to the new place. I have a 3 year old cat, who is very tiny, and beautiful, that needs a home. She is gray and white with stripes, and GREAT with kids. I have two toddlers who pick her up, sit on her, chase her, etc. and she has never once scratched them, never even swiped at them (even when she probably should have). She is an indoor cat, and has not been neutered or spayed. We got her as a kitten almost exactly three years ago, and were very sorry to see her go. I wish we could take her with us. We are all heartbroken. Im trying to find her a great home, with someone who will love her dearly.
