We thought Teacake was feral at first because every time we saw him he would run away at top speed. So we would put out food and leave—sometimes we would peek around the corner and see him come back to eat it after he thought we were gone. Then, after several months of feeding, Teacake started meowing loudly at us, like he was trying to tell us something. Then he let us pet him, and then he climbed in our laps and made himself comfortable! Needless to say, Teacake is not even a little a bit feral, just an abandoned pet who was absolutely terrified until he figured out we could be trusted. Teacake has turned out to be an extremely affectionate and gentle cat who loves to be petted and sit on laps. He also thinks catnip is really great. He is very happy to be inside and rolls around with pleasure, showing us his belly. Teacake has a very sweet, expressive face, and he is very attentive to his humans. He would like a home with lots of lap time for him, and maybe a gentle buddy cat to play with. We think he would also be OK as an only cat. Teacake is vaccinated, neutered, and has tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Our vet says he is about one year old. Juniper a little brown tabby girl, with soft silky fur and a lean, athletic build. She is full of energy, but also an intensely affectionate little cat who loves nothing better than to climb on our laps to be petted or just keep us company while we are doing chores. Juniper turned up a few weeks ago among a group of feral cats in Boston, very skinny and hungry, and let us know in no uncertain terms that she wanted to come home! She followed us down the street, and every few steps would throw herself on the sidewalk in front of us and roll around, showing us her tummy, so we had to stop and pet her. Needless to say, this little go-getter came inside with us! Juniper has turned out to be quite playful and will sometimes chase the laser pointer or a feather toy, but she is always looking over her shoulder at us and frequently stops in the middle of playing and runs back to us to be pettted. Juniper is extremely possessive about her humans, and the first time we introduced her to a companion cat, she chased him away and would not let him come near us. In fact, she acted like a mom cat defending her kittens, and we were the kittens! Since then we have learned that she will get along fine with other cats as long as they are not aggressive with her and we allow her some time to get adjusted to each new one. We would like to find her a home with another kitty for a buddy, preferably a gentle, easygoing male cat, like the one she hangs out with now. Buddy is a 9-year-old mixed breed collie. I adopted him in November 1999 from the Northeast Animal Shelter as part of their Flying Puppy Program. He was from a litter of 7 or 8 pups rescued from Lincoln, Nebraska. The folks at the shelter said he was a mix of Brittany Spaniel and Shetland Sheepdog and would grow to be around 35 pounds when mature.Nope. He looks like a short-haired collie and he weighs around 70 pounds. Hes affectionate, loyal, in great health, and loves to play fetch. So, why am I looking to re-home him? Because I love him.I got divorced 3 years ago and I got custody of Buddy. My two boys (then 3rd grade and 7th grade) grew up with Buddy. We all got along great! Then, I met a new love. We decided to combine families. She had two daughters (then kindergarten and 3rd grade). Buddy realized he could \"move up in the pack\" by dominating the littlest kindergarten girl. One day, she was running around the house and Buddy followed his herding instincts and nipped her in the face. We hired a trainer. Tried our best, but Buddys instincts overcame our laziness. He nipped her in the face twice more. My partner, rightfully so, said \"You go or the dog goes.\"Trying to make the best of the situation (and keep Buddy a part of my boys lives), I found a foster family willing to care for Buddy for two years. I hoped things would be different when the littlest girl grew a bit taller and became more assertive with Buddy. Well, the two-year foster contract is up at the end of this month. The foster family has two other dogs and they dont want to keep another dog in their family. My partner is still VERY anxious about Buddy coming back to live with us. So, Im doing what I should have done two years ago, find a PERMANENT home for Buddy.The past two years have been great for him. Hes gotten much more socialized around other dogs AND people. Hes gotten plenty of exercise. But, he needs stability...the kind of stability he can only get in a long-term caring circumstance. Unfortunately due to increased demands from work that have been in effect for a number of months, I am unable to give Kelly, my Meyers Parrot, the attention I believe she deserves. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to keep my two sweet and adorable cats, Isabelle and Stasia. They are sisters from the same litter, both 6 years old, short-haired and fully black. Rescued from a pound the day he was scheduled to be euthanized, Little Bear is a resilient and gentle soul. We guess his age around 18 months. I posted a week or two ago about finding a pet sitter for my pet rat Frankie while Im gone for the summer in Poland. Plans have changed, unfortunately, and it turns out that the apartment that Im moving into in August wont allow me to have a pet and my family has no interest in keeping him, as they are not home enough to devote attention to him, which is cruel to the animal. A few months ago Frankie lived in his cage with his brother, but he tragically died of pneumonia. I can tell that he is really lonely and the attention of just humans is not enough. If you do not have rats, experience with caring for rats would be great. He is house trained and only goes to the bathroom in his cage, and enjoys roaming around rooms to explore.
