Do you have information on grant or private foundational programs for troubled teens? My dear friend is in a desperate situation and Im trying to help her. She adopted an abused/neglected child from another country about 15 years ago. Since that time, she has provided a warm/caring home to this child and two other adopted children. This child has been diagnosed with attachment disorder, and also has a number of psychological problems related to early abuse and neglect, and as much as my friend and her husband have tried to help her lead a normal life, the child has wound up as a troubled tween and now a troubled teen (shes 17 now). My friend recently liquidated her assets to send this teen to an outward-bound-type program where the child was further evaluated, and has had a diagnosis of needing an in-resident program for a full year. (The counselors/doctors making the recommendation to not have any vested interest, as they recommended programs not associated with their organization.) Since my friend has liquidated her assets (and yes, she and her husband both work full time, and support two other children) were trying to find out if there are any grants or foundations around that may help her put her child in this resident program. Her health insurance only covers $1400 a month for the program, and the program costs $6K a month (far more than the take-home pay). Is anyone aware of a grant program or private foundation that offers funding or loans for parents to put their child in this type of program? The child cannot be left at home unattended and should not come back into the home with the other children as she poses a danger to herself and to others due to her at-risk behaviour and putting the family in dangerous situations. (Such as inviting thugs to their home, skipping school, etc.)If you have any links or mailing addresses for such a fund, would you please reply to this post? Ive spent hours trying to find this information myself, but I can only find charitable funds that give or loan money to organizations, not to individual families.My friend and her family are warm, caring, generous people who put their entire lives into raising three adopted children. They have tried everything they can think of, and only as a last resort are asking people for assistance for their daughter. They are very capable of repaying a loan, however, due to the economy loan approvals are scarce at this time. Thank you so much for any information or help you can provide. Also, if you know of good resident programs (from personal/family experience) that provide help to troubled teens with attachment disorder, but at a lower per-month rate or that provide financing -- Id appreciate a link for those as well.THANK YOU!!!! We own Little Six Mile Island on Lake Winnipesaukee NH. It, literally, is one of 6 Islands or so on the ENTIRE lake that is owned individually. In other words, most Islands have anywhere from 2 to 200 other homes on them whereas this Island is a private Island with only one cottage on it. The land value (in this economy) would be approx $1.5m and the cottage \"maybe\" $150k! I make mention of this because this is truly \"typical\" old tyme Winnipesaukee. People have asked countless times over the years why we have not taken the cottage down and replaced it with a Multi-Million dollar home due to the land. To us .... That would destroy what this Island is all about. Two all sand private beaches, huge U-Shaped docking system, regulation size Bocce Ball Court, walking trails, 360 degree Lake and Mtn views, spectacular sunsets and a whole lot more. I vacation around the world and, in my opinion, nothing compares to the Island. Perhaps if one were in the middle of the Carribean and came across a private island .... That would be Little Six Mile.Im guessing around 7-8 years ago we started the website www.LittleSixMileIsland.com and rented it out 4-5 weeks during the summer to selective tenants for $3k a week. Never raised it once. It was more about the quality of the tenant than the money obviously. Anyway ... As my folks are up there in their years .... We want to make the island available for them to come out to anytime they wish so we took if off the rental market with the exception of one family from Florida who comes up every year for 2 weeks. OK .. Now that I rambled on enough ... Let me tell you my thoughts. I have a 34 foot boat which I really am looking forward to taking out into the Atlantic for fishing with my son (hes now 27) for a week or two. I figured as the Island is sitting there -- IF I could find something very nice and appropriate for what we are looking for -- a swap for that time period could work. HiWe are a family that has been hit with more than our share of hard times. We need to move out of state because we have no where to go locally and cant afford to pay our rent and support ourselves. We are selling most of our belongings so that we can make the trip down south to stay with family, but we just cant fit all of our necessities in our van. We have looked into renting a trailer from uhaul and its just too much money for such a small amount of room. So Im on here hoping someone has a camper that could make the trip and hold some of our belongings and be able to be towed by our van. We have very short money, so were not looking for a gem, just something that will hold some boxes and bags of clothes and a few of our sons toys. Something liveable would be excellent, but Im sure a long shot, so if its not, that is fine. We need to be out of our place very soon and need to purchase something asap.
